  2. Best way to ensure you don’t get ripped off while traveling is to always have your bag carried on your chest or somewhere else at your front, just like the Japanese always do. (You will rarely see a Japanese carrying a day-travel backpack on their back, it’s almost always carried on their chest so they can see it at all times).

    That’s why I’m amazed at how many people I see here in Thailand traveling with backpacks on their backs (an easy target) and not paying attention about who is standing behind them on trains or buses. Plus, men who walk around with their wallets in their back pockets. Every time I go to my local market (Chatuchak in Bankgok), I see non-Thais complaining to the market police that their wallets have been stolen from their back pockets. Really? You expected otherwise?
