Best Anti Theft Backpack

Best Anti Theft Backpack – Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a multi-month trek across Europe, an anti theft backpack is your best friend.

If you’ve done any hiking or traveling, then you already know how great backpacks are. They offer you plenty of room to stow your gear, and they are comfortable to wear. In fact, I know some people who only travel with a roomy backpack because it’s easier to carry yet still provides lots of storage.

If backpacks have a downside, it’s probably that there’s really no way to see what’s going on behind you. Imagine that you are in a crowded plaza in Spain with hundreds of other people surrounding you. What’s to prevent someone from simply coming up behind you, unzipping one of the pockets on your backpack and making off with some really important valuables?

It’s happened to me, and I know it can turn a great day into a disaster in a hurry.

That’s why I embarked on another kind of journey, one that had finding the best anti theft backpack as its goal. I discovered that numerous backpack manufacturers have come up with ingenious solutions that are designed to keep your gear safe regardless of where you roam.

Best Anti Theft Backpack

While travelling somewhere, the main concern most people have is the safety and security of their personal belongings.

We believe the anti theft backpacks and purses are the number one safety measure everybody must take in order to keep all your important things like credit/debit cards, travel documents, smart devices, etc, safe.

Failing to take safety precautions might leave you vulnerable to pickpockets and identity thieves. Therefore, it is smart to use secure anti theft handbags for travel no matter where you go.

You can use them for your travel purposes as well as in your daily lives.

First, let’s talk about what these backpacks are and what makes them theft-proof.

What Is an Anti Theft Backpack?

A theft-proof bag is one that is designed with safety and security features that protect your valuables. This means that whether you are sitting in a café, waiting on a crowded train platform or dozing at the airport while you wait for your flight, you can be certain that your most critical items are safe.

Slash-proof material, lockable zippers and hidden pockets are just a few of the features that you might find on these backpacks, and you don’t have to be a world traveler to benefit from their use. These packs work just as well when you are commuting to work or school or just enjoying a day hike.

What Are Some Characteristics of a Theft-Proof Backpack?

The best of these backpacks gives you the peace of mind that you need to really enjoy your travels. This means that you’ll know that your credit cards, camera, passport, jewelry and any other valuables are safely stored.

A wide variety of these backpacks is available today. Some have just one critical safely feature while others have several. Once you are familiar with some of the most common security characteristics of these packs, you’ll be better able to decide which are necessary to you.

Let’s take a look at some of these characteristics.

1. Made from a Slash-Proof Material

Usually incorporating steel mesh into the fabric that makes up the bag, slash-proof material is designed to prevent a thief from cutting open your bag. Many of the backpacks made by manufacturers like Travelon and Pacsafe are made with slash-proof material.

If slash-proof material sounds intriguing to you, then consider taking it one step further. Some models even have slash-proof straps so that your backpack can’t be cut from your shoulders or from around the leg of a table or chair.

2. Locking Zippers

Most backpacks have a lockable zipper on the main compartment, but those that have lockable zippers on every compartment are the ones that will really protect your valuables.

If you are looking for a backpack with lockable zippers, then keep in mind that some backpacks will require you to purchase separate padlocks, or the manufacturer may recommended that you use only TSA-approved locks.

On the other hand, some of these backpacks have unique, built-in locking systems.

Lockable zippers offer you protection when you are out sightseeing and want to enjoy yourself. A thief who has unlimited access to your bag and plenty of time may be able to circumvent the locks, but this security system does what it’s supposed to by preventing crimes of opportunity.

3. Concealed Zippers

Some backpack manufacturers have found absolutely ingenious ways to hide zippers. This makes it really hard for a thief to quickly come up behind you and access the contents of your bag. Usually, a backpack with this feature has zippers on the side of the bag that rests against your back when you are wearing it.

If you’re on a tight budget and are looking for a theft-proof backpack, choosing a model with this safety feature may be the best way to go.

4. Secret Compartments

Here’s a security feature that will have you feeling like James Bond. It’s also one of the more common anti-theft features on backpacks.

A hidden pocket may be placed on the side of the pack that rests against your back to make it more difficult to access. Secret compartments sometimes also are found inside the bag. These are great places to tuck your cell phone, credit cards, passport and other valuables.

5. RFID Protection

This is an increasingly popular anti-theft feature that involves a simple RFID-blocking card. Basically, these backpacks have an internal pocket that is lined with an RFID-blocking fabric. Anything placed in this pocket is protected against radio waves that can skim your passport and credit card data.

6. Locking Cables

When you’re traveling, you won’t necessarily want to have your backpack strapped to your back at all times. A model that has a built-in locking cable gives you improved peace of mind by making it easy to lock your bag to a post, chair, table or any other convenient item.

This feature makes it virtually impossible for anyone to casually stroll by and snag your backpack.

Chose the Best Anti Theft Backpack for Traveling

When it comes to choosing a theft-proof backpack for your travels, you have several options to consider. Choose a backpack that has one or more of the above-described security features to give yourself peace of mind while you travel.

If you’re on a tight budget, remember that hidden zippers are a necessity. Those of you on a bigger budget can choose a backpack with numerous security features.

  1. Awesome resource for those concerned about their personal safety. I’ve evernoted this post for future reference … thanks!

  2. Best way to ensure you don’t get ripped off while traveling is to always have your bag carried on your chest or somewhere else at your front, just like the Japanese always do. (You will rarely see a Japanese carrying a day-travel backpack on their back, it’s almost always carried on their chest so they can see it at all times).

That’s why I’m amazed at how many people I see here in Thailand traveling with backpacks on their backs (an easy target) and not paying attention about who is standing behind them on trains or buses. Plus, men who walk around with their wallets in their back pockets. Every time I go to my local market (Chatuchak in Bankgok), I see non-Thais complaining to the market police that their wallets have been stolen from their back pockets. Really? You expected otherwise?

Nice bags, though and reasonable prices too 🙂
