Shanghai 2010 World Expo – A Green Freak Show?

Shanghai 2010 World Expo – A Green Freak Show?

“Better City, Better Life” is the theme of this year’s ‘World Expo 2010′ held in Shanghai.

The expo starting from the 1:st of May to the 31:st of October is believed to be the greatest through history, and they’re expecting up to 500, 000 visitors EVERY DAY for the next 6 months!!! WOW?!

This expo shows Shanghai’s new status as one of the world’s most important and most cultural cities. The World Expo and the attention that China now gets from the rest of the world is an acknowledgement that China has now become a nation of great power.

At first I thought that the motto “Better City, Better Life” was just so ironic, if there is a more polluted country in the world, I haven’t heard of it…

But on second thought, this can also be seen as a great step forward.

The Expo’s motto is: “Keeping in mind the next 60 years development while preparing for the next six months.”

Maybe there is some light in the end of the thunnel. From the last disaster in the “Climate Change Conference” held in Copenhagen last year, we would probably all like to see some enthusiasm for creating a better environment.

China’s goal is to leapfrog the U.S. in green technology, now if we know the U.S right they won’t let that happen without a fight, so hopefully we will see the two greatest nations trying to overcome eachother in greener and better inventions!

It certainly seems like the two countries that helped out polluting the world the most are taking big actions and efforts to clean up their mistakes.

People say that the ‘Shanghai 2010 World Expo‘ is a good place to exhibit cracked out brain-melting exhibitions, and to me it seems like it’s going to be one crazy freak show.

But will this really be a step towards a greener society? I get a feeling that this is just another show off and competition on who is bigger and better….

The 200 participating countries really try their hardest to outshine each other.

Romania built a gigantic green apple to encourage healthy lifestyles:

Macau a giant bunny pavilion with solar panels,

and Shanghai itself is building a pavilion made from resycled cd’s…

even the UK went all nuts with their hedgehog thing:

Sure would be interesting to see… What do you think about the Expo? Will it do any good, or is it just a freaky show off?
