Mum & Dad Are In Town - It's Sightseeing Time!

Last week mum and dad came from Sweden for a short visit. They were curious to see where I have been hiding the last four months, and I was eager to show them!

I think I showed them quite a bit of Scuol, Switzerland. None of them had ever been to a place like this, a place which is completely surrounded by mountains, where people live in houses that looks like they’re taken straight out of The Brother’s Grimm Fairy Tales.

My dad used to talk about us going for a winter holiday, but it always ended where it started, as an idea. Mum has never been fond of the cold (a bit ironic coming from Sweden), so whenever there was time we went south, to the nice WARM places…

Anyway, now with me living at a place like this, she couldn’t really so no any longer to a winter holiday. And they really enjoyed it!

We went sledging for a day, which is like the national sport here. It’s crazy, there are nearly as many sledging paths as there are walking paths here, and the rich Swiss spend a lot of money on getting the best, fastest and comfiest sledges.

They have championships and everything, but not don’t get much other competition since hardly any other countries do it – apart from the Austrians.

My dad tried skiing for the first time in 33 years. I thought I could show him my new skills and get a chance to show off – maybe even teach him a bit. But he skied straight past me, leaving me behind in SHOCK!

Well, what can I say? It is in the family genes

After a few days they looked like they were about to throw up just by the thought of cheese.

Two days in Switzerland with traditional food and you’ve eaten more cheese than you normally would in a month. Everything is covered, stuffed and served with varies of different cheese.

Perhaps as a way of making up for this diet you can find the most amazing fresh water here – they have several types of water. You can choose between fresh water from the alpine mountains, or different kinds of mineral water from the ground that is naturally fizzy!

Seeing them made me long for home a little. I dreamt about my little 2-month old niece, and I don’t want to miss out on seeing her growing up this summer.

However I’m still going to enjoy the last two weeks here to the fullest. There are still some things left here that I want to do – St Moritz here I come!
