I’ve been waiting for this show to come out for weeks now, and finally it’s here, the funniest travel tv show ever – An idiot abroad – (you can watch the trailer below)
Ricky Gervais is one of my favorite comedians (although nobody beats Mr Ross Noble), and knowing that he would produce a travel show was really exciting.
Most people would recognize him from the original Brittish version of “The Office”, which was his big breakthrough. I didn’t really like him in that show, but afterwards he has done some great things, among these a hilarious podcast called “The Ricky Gervais Show”.
The podcast is now the most downloaded podcast in history, and together with Ricky in the podcast are his two friends Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington.
In this new show, Ricky and Stephen sends Karl out to travel the world and visit the 7 wonders of the world. Now that idea doesn’t seem very different from any other travel show, but what’s different about this show is that the host is completely the opposite from every other travel tv host.
Karl has no interest in travel what so ever.
His furtherst trip away from home is Wales (which he thinks is abroad because they speak a different language). Add to this that he is kinda…well, daft…
What I love about the show is how it brings up things that most people don’t want to admit about traveling – and Karl is stupid (or brave, you choose yourself) enough to say what many other people think. Whatever you may think about the Great Wall and foreign customs, I gotta say that this guy has a point in many of the things he says.
Agree or disagree, but it’s freakin funny anyway
(Unfortunately the best trailer in two parts was taken off youtube, but I strongly recommend you watch the whole show! It’s on Sky 1 right now – but maybe you can also find in on the internet – somewhere…)

so what do you think – something worth watching or not?
