Beyond amazing!!! I wasn't able to appreciate the view during the free
fall, but after the shoot was opened we floated in the air for about 5
minutes and had the MOST incredible view of the Great Barrier Reef!!!!!!

    Great idea…

My travel goals for the next couple of years include:

    1. Buying an RV and travelling through North & South America (probably start that April, 2011).
    2. Buy and expedition vehicle and travel through Africa
    3. Try to be a bit more connected to the cultures we travel through. The other day we visited an orphanage in Cambodia and had a great time. My son (5yo) and daugher (3yo) had a fantastic time kicking the footballs that we bought the kids around and all the kids just had a great time. Hopefully we were able to brighten their days even just a little…
    4. Keep travelling for the next 3 years at least, then look for where I would like to live with my family :)

    Thanks for the inspiration…

    Regards,
    Colin

Oh my gosh, you're adorable!!! Love your goals, especially #5. That's definitely a dream of mine too. Though sadly I have missed the 25 year mark…maybe I should shoot for 30??? ;-)

I got my scuba license at the Great Barrier Reef and then a couple of days later sky dived over it. Such an awesome combo!

    Great goals!

For your diving license, I would suggest going to Thailand. Especially the island of Koh Tao has very very good rates because there is a lot of competition. Open water diver with free accommodation for 300US$. If you are lucky you can even spot a whale shark there. Check out my friends at: http://www.impian-divers.com

And when you finish do a tour with us in the City of Angels :-) http://bkktours.com

exciting – we are planning on going to the USA around then – never been there before so thats exciting and then heading the whole way down to South America etc. where are you guys planning on going, and for how long?

  • http://twitter.com/SilverAntigen Kala Naija

I love how you set your goals! Here are mine but I'm at the end of my 25th year so here's look at the next 5:
    1. I also want to go skydiving. I know it will scare the heck out of me but I've been dying to do it to prove a point to myself.
    2. I want to do long-term volunteer in Africa. This actually might be the first thing I check off from my agenda in the next two years :)
    3. I want to visit a remote village in China for over a week and live the simple life of the working country people.
    4. I want to backpack in Asia and Southeast Asia including Australia.
    5. I want to learn how to surf… and I don't mean stand on a board (I've at least stood up a couple of times) but really have a go at those waves! I had a potential chance in Surfer's Paradise, Queensland but didn't have enough time to fit it in my schedule. :(

  • http://waywardtraveller.com/ Annie

Loved the video and the goals!! They all sounds like goals I should ad to my own list… I'll have to make that sooner than later!! Can't wait to hear as you accomplish them!

  • Sofia

That sounds like some exciting goals!
A close friend of mine just got back from a year of volunteer work in Rwanda. She said it had been a life changing experience, which I can imagine.

Living in a remote village in China seems like a pretty crazy experience too..!

But in the end, there is nothing like surfing :P

  • Janice

My travel goal for this year is to hop the beautiful islands of the world, including the exotic Koh-Chang isles in Thailand (http://koh-chang.info/isles-near-koh-chang/). After that, then it's time to tour the rest of Thailand, then the whole of Asia!

  • Sofia

Hey Annie, thanks for the comment, and the email (will reply soon!) yeah I am planning on doing all these things as soon as poss. ;) then I can add some more!

  • Sofia

Hey Janice, sounds like a great plan! there are so many beautiful islands around the world – that would make for an amazing trip!

  • Norbert

    Hi Sofia –
    Love your list!

I recommend getting your diving license in the Caribbean (either Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St. Marteen, Aruba, ufff… lots more to choose). They have great diving spots; and lots of shipwrecks… really exciting. I'm sure you will love it. I personally got mine in Puerto Rico. And so far one of my best dives has been in Culebra Island.
Also, I recommend you take the PADI license instead of the SSI. Both are great certifications but the PADI tends to be more recognized worldwide.

  • Norbert

I got it more than 10 years ago but I remember it was $300 at that time. I think today it still averages that price, but you can find instructors that do it for less than that (look for independent scuba shops). Dominican Republic is also a great place to get it and it's even cheaper. I was going to take the course there but my trip was too short to finish the course properly (it usually takes 2 weeks), so I got my license in Puerto Rico.

Outside of the Caribbean I recommend Southeast Asia, or the “holy grail” of scuba divers – Great Barrier Reef (though I haven't done that one yet).

  • Sofia

Hey Norbert, a big thanks for the tips. would LOVE to go to the Caribbean! what was the price for you doing a PADI course there?

  • http://twitter.com/aeklipsp Angelo Pisano

you are a beautiful soul! best of luck, great goals! a lot of them are similar to the ones i've set for myself. let's make it a race!

  • Sofia

Hey Angelo, thanks for the lovely comment – haha OK the race is ON! :)

  • http://twitter.com/plasma25 plasma25

I love the idea of #5. When I get some cash together I'll take my wife to the airport and just do it. She'll think I'm crazy but I reckon she'd come along!

  • http://www.aswetravel.com/ As We Travel

hahaha yeah it's kinda crazy – but oh what FREEDOM! :) Tell us when you do it, would love to know how it goes ;)

  • ericajoh

Sounds like great travel goals (especially skydiving)! Good luck.

  • Jean

Go to the Philippines for your diver’s certification. They got the best beaches and dive sites – Palawan, Boracay, Cebu and Tubbataha! :) The latter 2 got sharks for you to see!

    • Sofia

Haha I think I would skip the shark sites the first time, maybe go there once I’ve take the certificate – otherwise I’m afraid I’ll freak out and have my lungs exploading as a result :P
Thanks for the tips, will keep them in mind!

  • http://www.facebook.com/murkevar Murk Evar

if the two of you are gonna hit a roadtrip, i’d say get a suv and take out the back seat, or get a truck with a shell. you can put a bed in the back, and the front will seat two. great for shelter and if you pack light it will carry more than you need with a rooftop storage unit. good luck!

    • Sofia

That sounds awesome, it’s exactly what I want to do! It sounds like you have some experience of doing that?

  • Anonymous

My top 5 things to do before I turn 26, I just turned 25 on Sept 4th 2010

    1. Skydiving- I need to do that this year no matter what.

    2. Asia- Ive traveled to over 33 countries but none in Asia so far. I know it will change my world forever.

    3. Israel- I want to see the country where religion was born

    4. Azerbaijan- just because no one has ever heard of it

    5. Visit one of the poles ;)

    • Sofia

Hi David! Sounds like a year full of adventure, awesome!

I feel the same about Kyrgyzstan as you do about Azerbaijan, I want to go there because most people don’t know about it and I just found out about the country a few months ago. It’s exciting, for some reason :)

  • Maree

Syria, Jordan & Turkey top my holiday list but also hoping to get to the West Bank to visit friends there, currently aiming to attend TED X Ramallah next year.

Would love to go to Gaza to visit children I’ve met through my involvement with a medical charity but not sure that is realistically going to be possible.

  • http://dominicanrepublichotelsandresorts.com/ Spencer

The fifth goal is definitely my favourite too. I’d love to do it.

  • http://www.ivisitorinsurance.com/ Sophie

At the age of 25 I think it is an accomplishment to do everything you have mentioned. I can see that you are a determined woman and I am sure you can have it all in no time. As for me I also love to try sky diving. Funny but at the age of 28 I never done it. I am missing a lot, right? So I have just decided to do it before I reach 30. But definitely I will be applying for an issuance before I do the jump (lol).

    • http://www.aswetravel.com Sofia

Thank you Sophie! Great that you have decided to do it, it’s a big step, and an awesome gift to yourself as a 30th birthday present ;)
Haha, good thing about the insurance, but let’s hope you won’t have use for it :P

  • http://www.meltours.com.au Jerome

So does you life end after 25? ;) Most of my great travel tales were generated after I was 35…

    • http://www.aswetravel.com Sofia

      Hi Jerome!
Of course my life doesn’t end after 25, that’s just the beginning right?!
But I want a hell of a start, and when I turn 25 I will have new goals to achieve by the time I reach 30 and so on :)

Loved them all ESPECIALLY number 5. Do you have any extensive posts on how Nathan survived with only 100 euros in Europe? I’m so intrigued and impressed by this.
